Shannon Adcock, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Shannon Adcock is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who provides convenient, confidential virtual therapy for adults. She works with individuals navigating a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, bipolar disorder, adjustment issues, binge eating disorder, and substance use concerns.

Dr. Adcock is deeply committed to a collaborative, client-centered approach. She empowers individuals by offering clear, evidence-based information about their treatment options and engaging in shared decision-making to determine the best path forward. Her goal is to create a therapeutic space where clients feel safe, understood, and genuinely supported—without judgment.

Drawing from well-researched, evidence-based therapies, Dr. Adcock tailors treatment to meet the unique needs of each client. Her therapeutic toolkit includes:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression

  • CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I): significantly improve sleep in as few as eight sessions

  • Trauma-focused therapies, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and Prolonged Exposure (PE)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build a more meaningful, value-driven life

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills coaching to improve emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness

  • Mindfulness-based practices for greater focus, self-awareness, and resilience

With a diverse clinical background, Dr. Adcock has worked in VA hospitals, primary care clinics, schools, and community mental health settings. She brings expertise in short-term, solution-focused interventions, psychological assessment, and motivational interviewing—particularly helpful for those considering recovery from substance use. Dr. Adcock also has extensive experience conducting psychological evaluations, including ADHD assessments, neuropsychological testing, and pre-surgical evaluations for bariatric and organ transplant procedures. Throughout her career, she has led therapy groups focused on DBT, ACT, substance use recovery, and CBT for binge eating disorder—helping individuals build skills and connect with others on similar journeys. 

Dr. Adcock earned her Bachelor’s degree from Duke University and went on to receive both her Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her research focused on the use of helping behavior to benefit mood.  She lives in North Carolina, where she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, reading fiction, and walking her dog.

Dr. Adcock is a member of PSYPACT, an interstate compact designed to facilitate the practice of telepsychology and the temporary in-person face-to-face practice of psychology across state boundaries.
