Mid Atlantic Internship Consortium (MAIC) Doctoral Internship Program

Build hands-on clinical experience in a supportive, multidisciplinary setting.

About the Program

Our doctoral internship at Fairfax Mental Health & Wellness is a proud member of the Mid Atlantic Internship Consortium. The program is designed to strengthen your clinical foundation while expanding your skill set through structured supervision and real-world experience. Interns work with licensed psychologists across a wide range of services—gaining insight, building confidence, and preparing for post-doctoral opportunities.

Therapy Services

Interns support and observe therapy with clients across the lifespan—from age 5 through adulthood. Our services include:
Individual, couples, and group therapy
Evidence-based treatment for issues related to ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, and OCD, and more.
Specialized approaches including ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) and CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia)
Parent support groups, such as group therapy for parents of children with ADHD
Our team draws from a variety of theoretical orientations to give interns exposure to multiple clinical approaches.

Testing & Assessment

Interns have the opportunity to assist with a broad range of evaluations, including:
Neuropsychological Testing: ADHD, Autism (including ADOS-2), language and processing concerns
Psychological Evaluations: Anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, psychosis, and more
Psychoeducational Testing: Difficulties in reading, writing, or math
Forensic & Medical Evaluations: Fitness-for-duty, pre-surgical assessments for bariatric surgery, IVF, spinal cord stimulators, and cosmetic procedures
Training is hands-on, and interns are supported by clinicians experienced in each evaluation area.

Medication Management Integration

Our robust medication management team works in tandem with our psychological staff to ensure continuity of care. Interns gain perspective on how therapy, assessment, and psychiatry work together in an integrated setting.

Supervision & Growth

Supervision is provided both individually and in group settings with licensed clinical psychologists at the practice. Interns will also participate in a structured training experience where they supervise another trainee and receive supervision of their supervision. In fact, many MAIC graduates have continued in our practice as postdocs and then licensed psychologists, after their internship year is complete. We are fortunate that several of our current licensed psychologist supervisors completed their internship placement with us through MAIC, which affords interns a streamlined supervisory process.

Choose Your Focus

Interns can tailor their experience by selecting a concentration:

Therapy-Focused Concentration

More therapy cases, fewer testing assignments.

Assessment-Focused Concentration

More testing exposure, lighter therapy caseload

Supervision is provided both individually and in group settings by licensed clinical psychologists.

Post-Doctoral Opportunities

We are proud to offer post-doctoral positions to qualifying interns who demonstrate strong clinical ability, professionalism, and alignment with our team values.
