Nina Velez, M.A., M.S.

Doctoral Intern

Nina Velez is a Doctoral Intern in Clinical Psychology. She works across the lifespan, but she specializes in psychological assessments and psychotherapy with children and adolescents. Her primary orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); however, to best meet her clients' individual needs, she also integrates elements of Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Her goal is to create a warm, culturally inclusive, and nonjudgmental environment in which her clients can safely grow. 

Nina has experience working in diverse settings including private practices, an outpatient hospital, a domestic violence shelter, and community-based inpatient civil and forensic psychiatric facilities. She also has created and facilitated many psychoeducational groups. Her clinical interests are in anxiety, ADHD, parent training, and behavioral and academic issues. 

Nina is a Doctoral Candidate in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School in Washington, D.C. She earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School and Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Forensic Psychology from Grand Canyon University. In addition, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University. In her spare time, Nina enjoys reading fiction books, watching movies, learning Korean, and snuggling with her goofy pitbull.
